Character-Specific Endings

Sayori's Ending

Sayori Hanging (s kill).png

(Notation: This isn't necessarily an ending to the game, simply more the events that lead to the end of her life. Information technology is an unavoidable upshot.)

Sayori's catastrophe happens halfway through the game. Information technology marks the end of Human action ane. Regardless of the protagonist's choices, related to Sayori or not, earlier in the game, what the histrion sees will be the same: Sayori will exist hanging past a noose from her neck upon entry.

When the protagonist enters her room, the game will get-go glitching out and the music will heavily be distorted, playing the vocal "Sayo-nara", a distorted version of the menu theme. The protagonist thinks to himself that this is his fault, that she is gone forever and that choosing the other selection when hearing Sayori's confession would accept prevented this. When the game forcibly brings the players straight back to the carte du jour, the result is Sayori being switched with a scrambled upwards mess of each of the other character's sprites where she used to be. The "New Game" choice will also be replaced with a line of glitched and distorted text, but its functionality remains the same. Monika will later state in Act three during her chat with the player that Sayori's hands were encarmine considering her hanging did not impale her instantly, having stepped from a chair instead of a higher place, the latter which would have fabricated her death quick and painless. Instead, she slowly asphyxiated, and during this fourth dimension tried to scratch at the rope in a vain attempt to free herself, bloodying her hands in the process. Monika believes that this is because of Sayori either changing her heed a few seconds too late, or mayhap information technology was but her survival instincts kicking in.

When she is seen hanging, Sayori does not habiliment the outfit that she wore on Twenty-four hours four, just instead she wears a white jacket and red shorts. There are blackness shadows nether her eyes, and her peel has a stake, sickly tone. The blood on her easily has dried a picayune and turned a rusty brown. This suggests that Sayori hanged herself very early on 24-hour interval 5, which has been confirmed past Dan Salvato in his Twitter.[one]

Natsuki'southward Catastrophe

(Note: This isn't necessarily an ending to the game. Yet, this is an optional event, and the game continues normally like it never happened, so Natsuki doesn't stay in this state.)

Natsuki'south "catastrophe" will happen once the protagonist writes two poems for Natsuki in the offset 2 days of Human action 2. It takes identify on 24-hour interval iii, in the poem sharing time. When the protagonist shares his poem with Natsuki, she will complain that he has been spending as well much fourth dimension with Yuri and not plenty time with anyone else. Natsuki's eyes and mouth volition begin to glitch out and will exist covered with shifting blackness pixels. She volition then begin to cry blood, all while the screen slowly tints to a night ruddy and a distorted version of "Okay Everyone!" plays over the scene.

She will keep rambling on and on that she is lonely and that the protagonist needs to spend time with her. Then she stops talking as the music cuts off, and for a short moment, the room volition be filled with silence. She will then snap her neck to the correct side of the screen at a 90° angle, and then quickly move towards the screen. A blackness screen will prove with the discussion "END" flipped backwards before the game resumes and restarts as if nada happened, with Natsuki still in the game.

Yuri's Catastrophe

(Annotation: This isn't necessarily an ending to the game, but more the events that atomic number 82 to the terminate of her life. It is an unavoidable event.)

Yuri.Doki .Doki .Literature.Club .full .2229797.png

Yuri's ending happens after she shows her final poem to the protagonist during Act two. Yuri confesses that she is in dear with him. Regardless of whether players choose to accept her confession or not, she will stab herself with a kitchen pocketknife 3 times. The thespian is then forced to spend the weekend in the order room with her corpse, staring at her as the lighting in the room changes, the claret color darkens to signal the passage of time, and her small grin slowly shifts to a slight pout, while the dialogue box displays over 1400 lines of random gibberish. It is afterward revealed by Monika that the whole weekend was running on a "broken script", to which she apologizes. On the PS5 and PS4 versions of DDLC+, this ending is slightly altered, instead of having cerise claret spilling out when Yuri stabs herself, black ink-similar blood will be spilled out instead. Nonetheless, the following scene with Yuri's corpse is unchanged. This was washed to satisfy Sony Interactive Entertainment's policies[2].

Monika'due south Catastrophe

(Note: This isn't necessarily an ending to the game, but more the events that lead to her deletion. She stays hidden in the game after this, but she doesn't manifest herself until the terminate. It is an unavoidable event.)

Monika'south ending starts after the weekend is spent with Yuri'due south corpse, at which betoken Natsuki finds the protagonist with Yuri's body in the course, before promptly airsickness and running away. Upon entering, Monika will apologize for the inconvenience, then delete Natsuki and Yuri from the game. She then begins Human activity 3 subsequently getting a cupcake from Natsuki (with her name now jumbled up and distorted)

The screen will get black afterwards and shortly show Monika sitting at a table in the now empty classroom, with her hands tented under her chin and a space-like background. Monika will so explicate her motivations for her actions and confess to manipulating the game in gild for the histrion to exist left solitary with her. A few of her lines indirectly instruct the player to delete her character by explaining how she deleted everyone else.

After her monologue, Monika will say that she has to do something quick and that, in the meantime, they can stare into each other'southward eyes. Monika will so at certain intervals of time speak to the actor about matters that ordinarily concern the game (listing of Monika's topics). The player is now costless to delete Monika's character by accessing the game's files (or let Monika to continue speaking for an eternity, though she volition somewhen run out of lines and repeat quondam ones). If the thespian decides to delete Monika from the game, Monika will then glitch out, earlier condign disembodied and angrily expressing her disgust at the actor. She volition then merits that she fabricated a mistake and express her regret at what she has washed to her friends. Monika then reveals that she couldn't observe it in her to delete her friends, due to her love for them and the Literature Club. Coming to a conclusion, she volition add all characters back into the game except herself (though she remains a disembodied entity).

Game Endings

Normal Ending

This ending will happen if the thespian didn't save-scum to spend time with all of the girls during Human activity 1. It'southward usually the commencement ending players become through while playing Doki Doki Literature Order! blindly.

Poem end.png

In Human activity 4, after starting a new game, the game appears to be normal, up until Sayori addresses the player at the end of the day, thanking them for deleting Monika. At this, Monika comes to the realization that any graphic symbol who falls into the president role will become self-aware and find out that Doki Doki Literature Order is actually just a game and that the characters take no gratuitous will. Because of this, Monika "deletes" everything as the credits roll. Information technology'due south worth noting that whatever CG that the player never viewed is rendered in greyscale. As the credits begin and continue, Monika sings her cocky-written vocal "Your Reality" with her piano, which can be heard by the player as the only confirmed vocalism in the game. Subsequently then, Monika leaves a annotation on the player'southward screen. At this signal, to play the game again, players will have to delete and reinstall it, or they tin can simply delete the "firstrun" file in the game binder and select "Yes" upon opening up the game again. For Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! players will need to run the reset.sh file located in the files of the born OS.

Good Ending

This ending can only be seen if players see all ix of the CGs (outcome images) of the iii girls in Act i (3 for each girl) past creating poems for them, too as Monika's Human activity three CG. One of the possible methods that can be washed to become this ending is saving at the first verse form, making all the poems specific to ane girl, and then before witnessing Sayori'due south suicide where the saves are and then deleted, go dorsum to the first poem save and repeat the process with a different daughter. After Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki'due south CGs have been seen, the game can be continued commonly. Players also have to be careful non to delete Monika too early in Act 3, because if they do and then without seeing the CG, the game volition not count information technology as seen and they will simply meet the Normal Ending.

Later on Monika restarts the game without herself present, Sayori will gain the knowledge Monika had from her position as the president of the gild, similarly to the normal ending, merely will instead thank the thespian for trying to make all the girls happy. Sayori thank you the player for playing, and the credits will roll, merely the images will not exist deleted. The other game files will be deleted nonetheless, and the role player must delete the firstrun file or reinstall the game to play again. Players will then get a thanks alphabetic character from the developer, which also contains a bones summary on his initial inspiration for the game itself and why he made it instead of the bloodshot letter from Monika.

Alphabetic character from the programmer

To the special actor who achieved this special catastrophe.

For years, I have been enamored by the ability of visual novels - and games in general - to tell stories in ways not possible using traditional media. Doki Doki Literature Order is my love letter to that. Games are an interactive fine art. Some let you explore new worlds. Some challenge your mind in broad new ways. Some brand you feel like a hero or a friend, fifty-fifty when life is difficult on you lot. Some games are just plainly fun - and that'southward okay, too.

Anybody likes different kinds of games. People who enjoy dating sims may have a heightened empathy for fictional characters, or they might be experiencing feelings that life has not been kind enough to offer them. If they are enjoying themselves, then that's all that matters. That goes for shooting games, coincidental games, sandbox games - anything. Preferences are preferences, and our differences are the reason we have a thriving video game industry. My own favorite games have always been ones that challenge the status quo. Fifty-fifty if non a masterpiece, whatsoever game that attempts something wildly different may earn a special place in my heart. Anything that farther pushes the limitless premises of interactive media.

I extend my true gratitude to all those who take taken the time to reach total completion. I hope y'all enjoyed playing information technology as much as I enjoyed making it.

Thank yous for beingness a part of my Literature Club!

Dearest,

Dan Salvato

Quick Ending

If Monika's character file is deleted (equally explained in Monika'due south Ending) before starting a new game in Act 1, Sayori appears to realize that she is trapped in a game and yells "Please MAKE Information technology STOP!". She volition then strength the game to close and delete the other grapheme files. If the player opens the game after this occurs, instead of the usual opening and main carte, a blackness "END" screen appears followed by a grayscaled screen of Sayori hanging herself. After 10 minutes pass, a message written in Sayori's handwriting appears on screen: "Now everyone can be happy."

An even shorter version occurs if Sayori's character file is missing when launching the game with save data from the first act. Upon launch, the game merely skips immediately to the same series of screens, the "Finish", followed by Sayori hanging herself.
